Chapter 491: The Revelation
Chapter 491: The Revelation
"But it’s not confirmed yet..." Yue Xin said and kept quiet.
Yue Jie wanted to give her a lecture on the magnitude of what it meant for her to be pregnant with the first child of the Lin Clan but she stopped herself.
Yue Xin was closed in with her mouth pinched and eyebrows pulled tight together, unlike her usual open and cheerful self.
She didn’t want to affect Yue Xin’s mood too much as it might upset her pregnancy.
Sigh.
What could she do to help her?
After letting out a sigh, Yue Jie rubbed the back of Yue Xin and said, "Don’t worry too much. No matter what, Xuan Qi and I will get through it with you."
That meant a lot to Yue Xin and she nodded her head at her.
Knock.
Just then, there was a knock on the door and Yue Jie asked, "Who’s that?"
The servant girl’s voice sounded from behind the door and said, "I’ve got the physician with me."
"Come in quickly." Yue Jie said and the doors to her room were opened.
An old man with a wooden box held by his side stood outside with the servant girl.
They entered the room and Yue Jie said to the servant girl, "The tea is cold now, make some hot tea for the physician."
"No need for that." The old man said but Yue Jie insisted.
The servant girl quickly turned around and did as instructed.
Yue Jie preferred to have no one around when the physician gave his verdict.
She didn’t want gossipy mouths going around and spreading the news.
It wasn’t even three months into Yue Xin’s pregnancy and she didn’t want to jinx it with others knowing about it.
The old physician smiled and glanced at both of them.
"So, who is the one that’s not feeling well?"
Both of them looked healthy and vibrant to him so he asked.
Yue Jie stood up and gestured at Yue Xin, "It’s my sister here, she might be pregnant and we wanted to make sure but..."
"I understand, no need for more words." The old physician said while he put down his wooden box to open it.
After so many years of experience, he was attuned to the struggles between these wives and concubines, something which he knew better than to get involved with.
He took out a wrist pillow, sat beside Yue Xin and placed it onto the tea table.
"Place your hand here with your palm facing up." The old physician pointed at the wrist pillow and said.
Yue Xin did as she was told.
The old physician placed his fingers near the outer side of her wrist and closed his eyes.
He stroked his gray beard while he ’listened’ to her pulse.
Yue Jie took a breath and held it while she waited for his verdict.
Thankfully, it didn’t take too long to find out.
The old physician nodded his head and retracted his hand from the wrist of Yue Xin.
"I have good news for you." He stood up and cupped his hands at Yue Xin.
"Good news?" Yue Xin glanced at him with her eyes opened wide.
"You are a month into your pregnancy, I’ll give you a prescription that would help stabilize it."
"Thank you so much." Yue Jie and Yue Xin thanked the old physician together.
Now that it was confirmed, a huge stone had been lifted off their chests.
It helped clear their minds and the best they could do now was to ensure that the child would be successfully delivered.
Yue Jie took out a small piece of silver from one of the drawers of her study table and handed it over to the old physician.
"This is for you."
"It’s... It’s too much for what I did." The old physician tried to refuse it but Yue Jie insisted.
"Please take it, I would rather it be kept a secret." Yue Jie said and the old physician finally took the piece of silver.
He rummaged through his wooden box and took out a piece of paper from it.
"Here is the prescription to stabilize the child."
Yue Jie took the prescription, had a glance at it and kept it in her sleeve pocket.
She didn’t trust Yue Xin to be able to take care of it all by herself.
Yue Xin, however, didn’t complain.
In a certain way, the familiar feeling of being taken care of by her elder sister was comforting for her.
"Then, I shall take my leave." The old physician cupped his hands at Yue Jie and said.
"I’ll let Lin send you back to your place." Yue Jie said and glanced around for Lin.
But Lin had gone to make the hot tea as instructed so she wasn’t around.
"It’s fine, I can get back to my place by myself." The old physician didn’t want to make things difficult for Yue Jie and he rejected her goodwill.
"Do be careful out in the winter night." Yue Jie nodded her head at the old physician and said.
The old physician kept the wrist pillow, tidied up his wooden box and closed it.
He turned around to take his leave but Lin came back and stood at the doorstep at that moment.
Lin was holding a teapot in her hand with someone beside her.
"I heard that Yue Xin is not feeling well, is everything alright?" Xue Cong asked and the old physician glanced at Yue Jie and Yue Xin.
He would rather keep his mouth shut and leave.
That piece of silver he had in his sleeve pocket felt heavier with every moment passing by.
Thankfully, Yue Jie came to his rescue and she said to Xue Cong, "The old physician is on his way out, let him go first while I tell you what happened."
The old physician took the cue and made his move, giving Xue Cong a nod as he walked by.
Xue Cong walked into the room with Lin.
Lin placed the teapot onto the tea table before she left and closed the doors behind her.
"Come sit with us." Yue Jie gestured for Xue Cong to join them at the tea table.
Xue Cong frowned and sat down with the two of them.
