Chapter 490: Not Alone
Chapter 490: Not Alone
Inside Yue Jie’s room, it was sparkling clean and tidy as usual.
On her study table, the account books were stacked together in order, and the abacus placed by their side.
The brushes were also cleaned and placed onto the brush holder.
Not a speck of dust could be seen anywhere in the room.
That was how Yue Jie liked things to be, but right now, she had something on hand that got her into a mess.
Yue Jie and Yue Xin sat by the tea table with Yue Jie holding onto Yue Xin’s hands.
What Yue Xin had told her earlier was unexpected and she didn’t know what to make of it.
Part of her was happy for her sister to be bearing Lin Xuan Qi’s child.
But part of her was jealous of it. And that made her curse herself for being so.
As the elder sister, she knew that she shouldn’t be.
But she couldn’t stop herself from doing so as one of the lovers of Lin Xuan Qi.
It was only when she saw the worried face of Yue Xin that she began to compose herself and tried to help Yue Xin with what she was going through.
"Are you sure? Have you told Xuan Qi?" Yue Jie asked with a concerned look.
Yue Xin nodded her head first and shook her head later.
That got Yue Jie confused.
"So, which is which?" Yue Jie asked and held tighter onto Yue Xin’s hands.
"I’m sure that I’ve calculated the days correctly and I haven’t told Xuan Qi about it because... I’m not sure what to do about it."
It was the first time Yue Xin saw her elder sister being just as anxious as her and it made her even more worried about her possible pregnancy.
She had never thought that she would be a mother so soon when she had been pampered and treated like a child herself for so long.
What would it be like for her when she gave birth?
She thought that maybe Xue Cong, Yue Jie or Liu Shi Shi would be the first to bear Lin Xuan Qi a child and she would have time to learn about motherhood from them.
But it seemed like her wishful thinking was wrong.
So many things went through her mind and she didn’t know the answer to any of it.
And this time, Yue Jie, who was usually dependable and knowledgeable on all things, was just as clueless as she was.
Yue Jie on the other hand tried to make sure of it and asked, "Are you sleeping well or have you been stressed the past few weeks?"
She wanted to check whether it was due to lack of rest or stress that Yue Xin’s period wasn’t on time.
But she shook her head before Yue Xin could say anything.
What was she thinking?
They had been well fed with even herbal soup and well rested for the past few weeks as instructed by Lin Xuan Qi.
Or maybe? What Lin Xuan Qi did had worked.
Yue Jie took a deep breath and composed herself.
Why were they behaving so anxiously?
They should be happy about it!
"I think we should get the physician to come and confirm whether you are pregnant first.
"As for Xue Cong and Shi Shi, I’m sure that they would be more than happy for you.
"There’s no point for us to be thinking too much among the two of us." Yue Jie said and Yue Xin nodded her head.
Yue Jie was back to her all-knowing self again, Yue Xin thought after she heard the comforting words from her.
It sounded like a plan to her and that was what they decided to do.
"Lin, go and send for a physician, Mistress Yue Xin is not feeling too well." Yue Jie shouted at the door and the servant girl who was outside the door quickly went ahead to do so.
Yue Jie poured Yue Xin a cup of hot tea and said, "Keep yourself warm, you mustn’t catch a cold now.
"Let the servants help you with everything else.
"And don’t you dare go around skipping like you always do."
Yue Xin nodded her head and let out a sigh but she knew that Yue Jie meant well.
Yue Jie on the other hand glanced over in the direction of Mei Jiao’s room.
What happened earlier after they overheard Yue Xin was still fresh in her mind.
Not knowing what Mei Jiao and Xue Cong would be talking about in Mei Jiao’s room, she hesitated to go and inform them of what she had figured out.
Tales of what the wives of the young masters would do when the concubines gave birth before them came into her mind.
It was a given that the wives would be cruel and would hate the concubines for it in the Da Qian Dynasty.
Yue Jie panicked for a moment but she stopped herself after a few moments.
What was she thinking again?
Mei Jiao and Xue Cong weren’t such evildoers like the wives in the tales that she had heard about.
Xue Cong had taken them in and helped them ever since the first day they set foot into the mansion.
She was even supportive of Lin Xuan Qi getting them as his concubines.
On and off, Xue Cong would even tell her that she didn’t mind whoever it was that was able to bear Lin Xuan Qi a child first, and that she would treat the child like her own.
For others it might be a lie but for Xue Cong, Yue Jie knew that Xue Cong was speaking from the bottom of her heart.
Yue Jie finally decided that she would go and inform Xue Cong later.
But not until the physician came and confirmed that Yue Xin was indeed pregnant.
Yue Xin, who had drunk the hot tea, felt warm and she wanted to take off the coat she had on.
She was halfway through when she quickly stopped.
The stare from Yue Jie fell on her and it was much more intense than before.
"You are not alone now and it’s better you think about the child in your belly."
