Chapter 318: The Wings [ 3 ]
Chapter 318: The Wings [ 3 ]
"I’d say we try to help her," Clementine said, then glanced at Jenna. "In my opinion, if we just get rid of the soul, then we might be able to give her all that power so she could control it freely."
On one end, I liked that idea, but on the other, was that really wise? Giving so much power to someone who probably didn’t even know how to tie her shoes correctly... It was definitely overkill.
But if she could have a Guardian like that, she would be significantly stronger. Not to mention, if there was a being who could give her advice and guide her, she would definitely jump leaps and bounds in her power.
It was an insane thought, since in the worst case scenario, the Guardian would take over her body, and it would be ridiculous. After all, when a Master/Guardian connection is formed, there needs to be some semblance of balance between their power.
If there wasn’t any, then she was as good as a bag of flesh for the Guardian to use however it pleased. So for starters, I’d need to find the connection she actually had with those wings. Whether they were external, there from birth, or just chimera’d onto her.
Obviously, I shared my perspective with Clementine too.
"Hmm... That could work. Though, there’s definitely no balance. We don’t have much time to train her. At most a month or two. Even then, the demons have started to ravage the towns and cities on the outskirts of the Skyward Continent. It won’t be long until the whole world is gone."
I nodded at her. "How’s your family?"
"Holding on well. My mom is, uhh... fat." Clementine coughed once. "She may be having twins, or maybe triplets... Or maybe she just ate a lot of food. I don’t know."
Ah...
"Twins sounds fun, no?" I tried to make light of the situation.
Though she quickly shut me down. "Bringing children into a world like this is just stupid."
"Don’t worry, by the time your siblings are born, this world will be devoid of all demons and evil," I assured her with a smile. It was a bold assumption, obviously.
But then again, my plans were a little heretical. I wanted to get rid of all of them, every single person who threatened us.
Even if I have to destroy the world and then remake it, I’ll do it if that means I could live a happy life.
With that in mind, I glanced back at Jenna. She wasn’t paying much attention to what we were saying, as instead, she was way too preoccupied trying to control her wings.
She flapped them up and down, but instead of flying up, she plopped down face first, embarrassing herself. She quickly sprang up to her feet, leaving both Clementine and me surprised by the fact that with a single gesture, she accidentally broke through my Telekinetic barrier, the same barrier that I had reinforced with hundreds of layers.
I quickly remade it, but the sheer fact that she managed to do it so effortlessly made me realize something. Those wings gave her some sort of power that allowed her to pierce through energy easier.
That, or she could pierce through Gifts easier. That would make it more overpowered, since if someone used a Gift to create a set of armor, she could essentially pierce through that armor as though it was butter.
Even if that armor was made out of pure Clorafite, the unbreakable metal.
Anyhow...
"That’s enough for now, Jenna. Allow Clementine to draw you a bath, and then afterwards, get some sleep, yeah?" I said.
She glanced over to me, then pouted. "Can’t I play around a little more? It’s not every day I get to use my wings so freely."
"Play around, how exactly? You’re very powerful when you’re like this. If you accidentally sent out an energy blast, it would kill every single being in the city."
And as if on cue, the wings moved by themselves, flapping in the direction of where there were the most people. This time, I was very much prepared for her attack, my guard even firmer than before.
For that reason alone, I managed to spot the invisible trace of energy leave the wings, pierce through my barrier, and then head toward the people.
It was fascinating for something like that to have enough sentience. But it was a red flag if it defaulted to killing innocents. I didn’t need something like that on my side.
If it looks like it wouldn’t change... I won’t hesitate to chop off those wings and give all that power to Jenna instead.
Though aside from that, the energy wave didn’t manage to reach the people as I intervened, wrapping it around in my Telekinesis. It further assured my suspicion that it pierced only through energy, as at that moment, I used only pure Divine Energy and basic Telekinesis.
Since Divine Energy was a little bit better than regular energy, it didn’t manage to do anything to it, of course. But still, the effects were clear, obvious, and definitely deadly. I didn’t want that kind of weapon getting out there.
Dissolving the energy, I turned back toward Jenna. She hadn’t realized what had happened yet, merely jumping around and trying to fly. She was far too innocent.
Nonetheless, Clementine had seen that attack too. While she wasn’t able to react to it, she got a much better idea of what she wanted to do now, and that idea was simple.
"Should I try purging the evil out of those wings’ soul?" she offered.
I tilted my head. "Is that possible?"
She pondered over it for a moment, then nodded. "I could... But an overly righteous pair of wings might just stop itself from killing. That’d be worse than what we have now."
"True... Then maybe we should just not do anything?"
"Mm. I think so. Though, we can’t let her out of our sights, since she’ll just massacre everyone in the city without you around."
I rolled my eyes. "What about our alone time?"
A faint smile appeared on her face at my words.
"A Siren Queen’s lifespan is 300 years. So long as we survive against the demons, we’ll have three centuries to ourselves."
I scoffed.
"I guess I’ll just have to make you immortal then."
