Chapter 285: Their Daughter
Chapter 285: Their Daughter
By mid-January, the weather was a bit chilly. At the entrance of the hospital’s gynecology surgery room, many people sat there, each appearing quite significant.
Today was the day Holly Sawyer was giving birth, a normal delivery, it was a natural birth.
Leo Grant clenched his fists tightly, although there was no sound from inside, one could imagine how painful it was.
Holly Sawyer could grit her teeth when injured, and she was just as capable during childbirth.
Hearing the screams getting louder from another surgery room, Leo felt a tug of discomfort in his heart.
Worried.
"Wipe it off."
Cecilia Bennett rummaged through her bag and handed a pack of tissues to Leo, speaking slowly.
Leo was sweating even though he wasn’t the one giving birth, yet he was this anxious.
"Thank you."
Leo casually wiped, yet still felt uneasy in his heart.
Nancy Miller and Cecilia Bennett were also extremely worried.
The waiting period was torturous, every minute and every second was torturous.
Soon, the door to the surgery room opened, mother and daughter were safe, and Holly Sawyer successfully gave birth to a daughter.
Leo rushed inside impatiently, the first thing he looked at wasn’t the child, but Holly Sawyer.
"Thank you for the hard work."
Leo gently touched Holly’s cheek, feeling immense heartache.
"I’m willing."
Holly was indeed a bit weak, but she managed a faint smile.
"Having one child is enough for us, let’s not have more."
"I don’t want you to experience such pain again."
"Holly, I really love you."
Leo held Holly’s hand, speaking softly with a tone full of affection and tenderness.
The heartache was intense.
He didn’t want Holly to experience such pain again, once was enough.
"Okay."
Holly nodded lightly, her smile was exceptionally sweet.
Their daughter’s name was Jenna Grant, symbolizing the love between Leo and Holly.
——
When Jenna Grant first went to kindergarten, she already knew that her parents were very much in love, and she was a surprise.
Since childhood, she had been with her grandmother, who raised her single-handedly, while her parents were either busy at work or off enjoying their couple’s world.
It truly resonated with the saying: parents are the true love, the child is accidental.
"Mommy, can I skip a grade? The kids in kindergarten are so silly, I don’t want to play with them."
Four-year-old Jenna lay in Holly’s arms, pouting.
Perhaps inheriting Holly and Leo’s intelligence, Jenna was quite smart for her age and understood a lot of things.
She resembled Holly greatly in appearance and temperament, being adorable and soft, making people want to kiss and pinch her.
Holly was silent for a while, then turned to look at Leo, "Is it okay?"
Skipping a grade didn’t seem quite right, she might miss many opportunities to communicate with peers, and perhaps, the little one would miss out on a lot of fun too.
"It’s okay, we skipped grades too, didn’t we?"
Leo looked lovingly at Holly as he spoke slowly.
It wasn’t a big issue.
With her father’s permission, Jenna moved up to first grade.
Her tiny presence garnered special attention in the class, because of her cuteness and good temperament, classmates loved playing with her and pampered this little one.
Later on, Jenna continued to skip grades, reaching high school by the age of eleven.
Perhaps due to Leo’s strong genes, at eleven, Jenna was already taller than many of her peers and didn’t appear short among high schoolers.
In the first week of high school, Jenna, who had been docile, was for the first time called to bring in her parents.
Standing properly in the office, Jenna faced her homeroom teacher, her little hands clasped together, looking remorseful.
She looked so well-behaved, it was hard to imagine she could fight, had the teacher not seen it with his own eyes, he would have been deceived by her appearance.
When Holly arrived, she saw Jenna being reprimanded in the office.
"Are you Jenna Grant’s mother...whoa."
The homeroom teacher, Mr. Lopez, initially had his head down. Upon hearing the voice and about to ask if this was Jenna’s mother, he looked up and was stunned to see Holly.
Holly???
"Hello, Mr. Lopez, long time no see."
Holly held a smile on her lips, her tone quite friendly.
In his heart, Mr. Lopez thought: I’m not good, seeing you makes me feel anything but good.
Coincidentally, Mr. Lopez had been Holly’s homeroom teacher, and Holly had been one of the students who gave him the most headaches.
Whenever he tried to discipline her, Holly would shut him up with her grades. But if he didn’t, he’d see this girl getting into fights outside, smoking, drinking.
She was the epitome of a troublemaker.
"Haha, long time no see indeed."
"Jenna Grant is your daughter, huh?"
Mr. Lopez awkwardly chuckled, his left eyelid twitching.
Holly nodded: "Yes."
Mr. Lopez scrutinized Holly and Jenna, finding the resemblance in their features ever more familiar.
No wonder Jenna looked so familiar at first glance, he hadn’t realized there was this connection.
Mr. Lopez: "..."
Indeed, genetics really do pass on.
The former Holly had also been adorable and soft, appearing as a well-behaved girl, who would’ve known she was so bold?
"Mr. Lopez, what did my little Jean do?"
Holly inquired, sitting down without a second thought, her legs crossed.
Standing side by side, Jenna was a bit surprised that Holly knew her teacher and by her mother’s casual demeanor.
So laid back?
"She fought with a classmate."
"Teacher, I was standing up for what was right, it wasn’t just fighting."
Jenna suddenly lifted her head, correcting Mr. Lopez’s words, without a hint of fear in her eyes.
Mr. Lopez: "..."
Goodness.
"Mr. Lopez, little Jean said she was standing up for what was right."
Holly said without second thought.
Mr. Lopez felt speechless, feeling that calling in the parent was of no use, no use at all.
Everyone at school back then must’ve been well aware of what kind of person Holly was.
"Alright, alright, I won’t mention it."
"Jenna Grant, in school you should foster solidarity and friendship, don’t fight, fighting isn’t good."
Resolving that talking to Holly wouldn’t help, Mr. Lopez turned and gently instructed Jenna.
Never mind, if the adult can’t be reasoned with, then try the child.
"Okay, I understand, teacher."
Jenna nodded obediently, displaying a model of good behavior.
"Mr. Lopez, the premise of not fighting is that nobody stirs up trouble."
Holly yawned, speaking slowly as she pulled Jenna closer.
