Chapter 690: No Talking About It.
Chapter 690: No Talking About It.
He snorted and said with an agitated voice, "It is not as if the Divine Positions are being taken away permanently. They still belong to the pathway. Divine beings are only borrowing it."
"And it is not as if I won’t pay the life-leech for borrowing the power of the Divine Positions. So the more Divine Positions I take, the more lifespan you will get from me."
"The fact that I was taking a lot of Divine Positions should have made you happy, not angry. But not only did you get angry at me for being a slave to you, but you also didn’t ask me to stop. You just got straight ahead to murder."
"You are the lord of the pathway, so I’m sure that you could have taken the Divine Positions away from me if you didn’t want me to have them. I could also have given up the Divine Position if you had asked. You didn’t even need to ask nicely. You could have been as rude as you wanted to about it, and I would still oblige."
"But there was no talking and there was no warning whatsoever. You immediately made a move to kill me. What could I have done that was so heinous and deserving of death?"
The part he heard about being called greedy was that he didn’t understand why what he did mattered to a Dao Lord, and certainly not why it warranted his death.
His voice was full of confusion as he said, "Was the Dao Lord angry with me because I was a dragon?"
When he thought about this possibility, he shook his head and said, "That shouldn’t be the case because the matter of my being a dragon didn’t seem that serious."
"My identity as a dragon seemed to be something the Dao Lord noticed in passing. The main event was still centered around the fact that I had taken 5 Divine Positions and was about to take 2 more Divine Positions."
"There is also the fact that the Dao Lord didn’t seem angry at all. That voice was laid back as he went ahead to kill me. He basically treated me like a greedy little child that he was punishing for being greedy."
The more he thought about the situation, the more confused he became about the entire thing. He couldn’t understand why a great and powerful Dao Lord would make a move to kill him when he hadn’t broken any rules.
The whole thing was just baffling to him. And to be honest, he didn’t like that his life was so precarious that he could be killed so easily for doing something that should be normal.
At the end of his intensive thinking about the matter, he could only say, "Come to think of it, I have never seen a divine being with five Divine Positions. I have seen nearly all the rank 8 divine beings in the Blessed Heaven World, but the most that any of them had was four Divine Positions."
"Was it a coincidence that none of them got a fifth Divine Position? Or did they already know that having five Divine Positions was forbidden? But why would having five Divine Positions be forbidden in the first place? What is wrong with wanting more power?"
"Could it be that five Divine Positions unlock something that Dao Lords don’t want divine beings to know? If that is the case, I was cheated because I didn’t feel any different when I got the fifth Divine Position."
Then he sighed and said, "I just hope that the Dao Lord won’t get mad and make a move to kill me when I try to steal that medium world."
"If he gets angry, he should do it after I get what I want. Then he should wait and hope that I don’t ever become a Dao Lord cos I will come for his head when I do."
Honestly, he felt disrespected. He was afraid for his life and safety, but the most pertinent emotion that he was feeling was the disrespect of being killed without just cause or any cause for that matter.
Every time he considered what happened, he would say with bitterness, "I did nothing wrong. If there is something I did wrong, it is wanting more power."
Deep down, he doesn’t want the reason for the attempt on his life to be that he wanted more power. This is because if that is true, it would mean that Dao Lords don’t want divine beings to become powerful, and they would kill anyone who crosses their bottom line.
He would prefer that the Dao Lord kill him for a simple reason, such as his looks. If he had nearly died because he was simply ugly, he would have accepted it far more than the possibility that the Dao Lord was killing him to keep him weak.
The thought that Dao Lords were killing divine beings to keep them weak made him feel like a true slave or an animal being raised in captivity.
In the first case, the Dao Lords were killing divine beings who were becoming too powerful in order to prevent them from rebelling, while in the second case, the Dao Lords were killing divine beings who had been big enough to be killed.
In both cases, his freedom is limited, and there is a ceiling on how powerful he can become. Not only that, but his quest to achieve freedom is also being actively inhibited by the Dao Lords.
These are not things that he can be happy about at all. It is such a serious matter that he was still thinking about it when he came out of the River of Time.
He came out of the River of Time at the end of the road. He intentionally didn’t come out earlier just to make sure that he was safe and wasn’t being followed.
But even when he recovered his bearings in the Physical World, the first thing he did was to look around to make sure that there was no large, colossal hand coming down from the sky for him. He did this to make sure that he was safe.
