Chapter 538 - 539: The Successor? [2nd Update]
The thirty people were terrified. They never imagined their superpowers would disappear just like that. Knowing how terrifying Wu Tian was, they could only hope he would spare them.
Composing himself, Bidley immediately said respectfully, "Lord Martial God, please stop! We’re from a foreign embassy."
"Embassy?" Wu Tian chuckled and glanced at them. He figured they were from the likes of the American or British embassies. But so what? International friends? Who cares?
"All of you, disappear," Wu Tian said indifferently.
The technique he had just used to shatter their abilities was the Crushing Origin Palm. This was a Martial Arts Technique Wu Tian created back when he was the Wutian Celestial Emperor. Some families passed down abilities through their bloodline, such as Divine Bodies and Divine Skills. Unlike Spiritual Power, these gifts were ingrained in their very flesh and blood, making them impossible to remove at their root.
At the time, Wu Tian and the Empress had discussed if it was possible to strip people of their bloodlines, Innate Divine Abilities, the divinity-granting Heavy Pupils, Supreme Bones, and Divine Bodies. After discussing the Dao together for a year, Wu Tian created the Crushing Origin Palm, while the Empress developed the Creation Tactics. Both were Martial Arts Techniques designed to eradicate these abilities at their very source, turning something into nothing.
"Run!"
The thirty people scrambled to flee. Wu Tian snorted. "Burn them to ash."
Little Kirin nodded, and a sea of fire rolled out, incinerating them.
But why exactly had those people surrounded Professors Zheng and Li? Wu Tian turned his gaze toward them.
"We are professors from the Dragon Country Seed Vault. Thank you, Lord Martial God, for saving us," said the professors. They had been certain they were going to die. With the resurgence of Spiritual Energy on Earth, many people awakened superpowers like mutants, and the rule of law seemed to have become a mere suggestion. Murder had even become a common occurrence among ordinary people. They never expected to encounter a benefactor who would save their lives and were filled with gratitude toward Wu Tian.
"No need for thanks," Wu Tian nodded, cutting to the chase. "But what exactly is going on here? Why were they giving you trouble?"
"Uh, this..." Professors Li and Zheng hesitated, unsure if they should tell the truth. However, Wu Tian had saved them, and at this moment, Dragon Country truly needed a Martial God like him. They reasoned that in the face of such global changes, the people of Dragon Country should unite rather than harbor suspicions against one another. Thinking of this, Professor Zheng and Professor Li sighed and decided to be truthful.
Professor Zheng said, "I hold a doctorate in medicine, and I discovered a King of Poppies. With the resurgence of Spiritual Energy on Earth, such miraculous things have begun to appear. As you know, poppies can be used to create stimulants that temporarily boost one’s spiritual power. The King of Poppies, however, can permanently enhance it. If other countries were to obtain it and manufacture drugs, terrifying psychotropic substances could be created."
Poppies are the main raw material for producing opium, and their extracts are also the source of various sedatives.
Upon hearing this, Wu Tian’s eyes lit up. He now had a lead on how to restore his Spiritual Sense!
"I want the King of Poppies," Wu Tian said immediately. "Of course, I also want to see the time machine."
Professor Zheng and Professor Li exchanged a glance and both nodded.
Although they had discovered its existence, they didn’t want the King of Poppies to be used. It was well-known that ordinary poppies provided temporary excitement but were also highly addictive. They could lead to chronic poisoning, severely harm the body, and even cause death by respiratory failure in serious cases. The poppy flower, on the other hand, granted eternal excitement and enhanced one’s spiritual power, but it could also turn a person into a terrifying madman. While they would become immune to pain, perform feats unattainable by mortals, and even attack with their spirit and soul, they would ultimately lose their sanity. If the King of Poppies were given to Wu Tian, however, there would be no such drawbacks.
"Alright, I agree to give it to you," Professor Zheng declared. "I’ve placed it in the seed vault."
"Excellent! Lord Martial God, why don’t you accompany us to the seed vault? The time machine is there, and you can also meet the other professors and doctors. Perhaps there are other things there that could help you," Professor Li suggested. In his eyes, building a relationship with the Martial God was a great opportunity.
"Alright!" Wu Tian agreed without hesitation. He had come here for the time machine, after all. Besides, he wanted to give the little one some training by letting him meet more professors and doctors to broaden his horizons. That was also a part of the experience.
"Wonderful! We are thrilled to have the Martial God accompany us," Professor Li and Professor Zheng laughed heartily upon receiving Wu Tian’s consent.
When the Dragon Country Seed Vault was built, it was publicized in the news with the headline: "Dragon Country Constructs the World’s Second-Largest ’Doomsday Seed Vault’." These global vaults store ’backups’ of hundreds of thousands of plant seeds from around the world, preventing crops essential for human survival from going extinct in a catastrophe. The Dragon Country Seed Vault was no simple facility. Scientists designed it to withstand numerous ’disasters,’ including natural calamities, plagues, war, and even the ’end of the world.’
The Dragon Country Seed Vault had five floors above ground and hidden levels below. The building was a structure of interconnected red and white sections.
No sooner had they entered than they heard a scientist shout, "How on earth do we activate this time machine?"
Many shared this sentiment, sighing one after another.
"Who knows how to activate it?"
"Professor Qian invented this time machine after the ’Two Bombs, One Satellite’ project and received approval to store it here. But how do we start it?"
"Professor Qian said it’s driven by force, but how much force does it actually need?"
"So he just left it here for future generations to figure out?"
The professors and doctors in the seed vault all wore troubled expressions, each hoping to be the one to activate the time machine and take a trip through time.
"Professor Qian invented the time machine in a sudden flash of inspiration. Afterward, he apparently made an attempt to activate it himself before just leaving to go on a trip with his family. He said that while he loved science, he loved his family more," Professor Li lamented with a hint of envy. Now in his sixties and still a bachelor, he sometimes wondered if he was destined to be single forever.
Professor Zheng then turned to Wu Tian. "Before Professor Qian left, he said that activating the time machine requires force! We’ve tried channeling the power supply of an entire city into it, but it was no use. I’m afraid we’ll need your power."
Professor Li nodded in agreement.
Wu Tian looked toward the time machine, which was surrounded by a crowd of professors. The device looked just like a platform bed—the common style with a headboard, a footboard, and a simple frame. If Wu Tian hadn’t inspected it with his Spiritual Sense and discovered the intricate machinery within, he too would have mistaken it for an ordinary bed.
Just then, a loud voice shouted from outside the seed vault, "I hear there’s a time machine in here! I am the heir of the Martial God, and I’m claiming it for myself!"
