Chapter 651: Understanding the enemy

Samuel arrived at the estate after saying his goodbyes. He promised both Kate and Bella that he would take invite them to his home in coming weeks when the madness died down a little.

As soon as he reached the gate, Arthur was there to pick him up. It was fairly early in the morning, just around the breakfast time which meant everyone had just woken up still, Arthur looked pristine and clean as always.

" I heard you had another incursion last night? Do you actively go looking for trouble or it just follows you because it's you." He asked.

" I don't know what to say. I didn't do anything extreme but he had it coming his way with the way he was harassing my date. I am sure you would do the same thing."

" Well not the same, I wouldn't have let him escape for one."

" I have to take my sweet time so that I don't frighten him from start. He will get what's coming to him eventually but let's not talk about that. How are others doing?" He asked. He did stay overnight without telling them.

" They were disappointed especially Miss Hannah. She was a little angry but because of a certain surprise things got back to normal again." Arthur gave him the smile but Samuel didn't like it. The old man was sly and cunning, there must be trouble waiting for him at home which was why he abruptly changed the destination so that he could get some work done before getting down and dirty.

" I will not even ask what the surprise. I would rather find it myself in the meantime just drop me off at the office. I want to talk to Jane. She is there right?"

" I don't know but if you have given her any task I am sure she would priorities it even if she was raving about taking a long vacation recently."

Samuel looked at him all surprised when he remembered that Steve and her anniversary was around this time. He took a mental note to buy them something nice before getting off the vehicle. Arthur went back to the main mansion to prepare some food and inform everyone about his arrival.

Samuel greeted everyone as he walked up to Jane's office. He could see from the glass window that she was busy working on something. She was sorting out some paper and seemed be thinking about something while looking at a piece of paper in her hand.

" Good morning." He made his presence known. Jane also greeted him before handing him the stack of paper.

The family hit rough strides but with the help of his extended family, he finally went into clothing market granted that he had to take a loan from them. He would import goods from far east and selling them to local market making small percentage for his effort.

But the luck shined on him in late eighties when he bought up, at low prices, the entire stock of ten designer-label clothes retailers that had gone into receivership. He then had the newly bought clothes dry cleaned, put on hangers, and wrapped in polythene to make them look new, and bought a shop from which to sell them to the public.

He went in to become the chairman of a discount retailer whose stock did perform well initially but after a series of loss and failing to meet the quota, he ultimately resigned as he failed to meet board's expectation.

His real wealth came when he assisted his wife with purchasing the Couture engine later changing it's name to Opulent Group. It became one of the largest high street chain clothing brand in couple of years hosting other smaller subsidiary brand that came prepackaged with his acquisition.

There were some public controversy of him trying to skirt around taxes. Samuel wasn't one to judge, he supported the government, hell, he knew the prime minister and the Queen personally but he had to say taxes were getting wild in this country.

Rothschild family was based here and with the amount of money that flowed regularly the corporation, they were given certain advantage because they were driving forces for the economy often helping to stimulate it whenever the situation got too dire.

Even then, they wasn't foolish enough to transfer about billion dollars offshore in their relatives names just to get few more millions off the taxes.

Later he acquired the BHS chain which was doing substantially better on the surface but from the internal reports that Jane somehow acquired, the situation didn't look that good. If he were to release the document anonymously, it would be enough to shake his company but he wasn't going to do that.

He moved to what he was truly looking for, the information about his son. After meeting him personally, Samuel knew he was spoiled but the more he read, the uglier his face got. It seemed like Kate wasn't the only victim. She might even be one of his earliest one as they were still in high school at that time.

But over the years, Brett just got bolder and bolder. Jane was able to make a list of people as well as their names. From the looks of it most of them didn't even dare to come forward, either from fear of being ostracized by people around them or him just making things up like he did with Kate.

They either ignored it completely shutting themself off or changed cities to avoid being harrassed. Few that did came forward, their cases went nowhere. His father was somewhat connected to the Royal family having been received the honorary knighthood from the Queen.

Leveraging it he was able to scare them off or pay the authorities until now. Even media personals didn't dare to criticize the family except for few fearless one but they didn't have that much reach which made the news die down in couple of days.
