Chapter 192 -
Chapter 192 -
Zhao Yue stood at the doorway with a bundle of clothes clutched tightly against her chest.
For several long seconds, she simply stared at Fu Teng.
The more she looked at the confused expression on his face, the angrier she became.
A few days ago, she had stormed out of this very room because of him.
At first, she had expected him to come looking for her.
Maybe he would apologize.
Maybe he would ask her to come back.
Maybe he would at least pretend to care.
But not only had he failed to do any of those things, he had gone about his days as though nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, she had spent the last few days sharing a room with her sister, tossing and turning every night while becoming increasingly annoyed every time she thought about him.
And now...
Now that she had finally gathered the courage to return...
Now that she was standing right in front of him...
The first thing that came out of his mouth was:
"You are back? What do you want? Didn’t you leave just a few days ago? Why are you back so soon?"
Zhao Yue felt something inside her snap.
Not whether she had been sleeping well.
Not whether she had eaten.
Not whether she was still angry.
Not even a simple welcome back.
Just—
Why are you back?
The more she thought about it, the more furious she became.
Without warning, she threw the bundle of clothes directly at his face.
Fu Teng’s eyes widened in shock.
Instinctively, he reached out and caught it before it could hit him.
"What are you doing?"
Zhao Yue didn’t answer.
She pushed past him and walked straight into the room as though she owned the place.
Fu Teng stood frozen for a moment.
Then he slowly looked down at the bundle in his arms.
Then he looked back at Zhao Yue.
Then back at the bundle.
His expression became increasingly confused.
"What is wrong with you now?"
The moment those words left his mouth, Zhao Yue stopped walking.
Slowly.
Very slowly.
She turned around.
The look on her face immediately made Fu Teng feel that perhaps he had said the wrong thing.
"What is wrong with me?"
Her voice rose several degrees.
"You actually have the nerve to ask me that?"
Fu Teng frowned.
"I was only asking—"
"Then don’t ask!"
Her voice echoed through the room.
Fu Teng blinked.
For a moment, he honestly had no idea what was happening.
Zhao Yue saw the confusion on his face and became even angrier.
"You questioned me the moment I arrived!"
"You looked like I was disturbing your peace!"
"You even asked why I came back!"
She crossed her arms tightly across her chest.
"What? Am I not allowed to come back?"
Fu Teng immediately felt a headache forming.
He rubbed his forehead.
"I didn’t say that."
"That’s exactly what you meant."
"No, it isn’t."
"Yes, it is."
"It isn’t."
"It is."
"It isn’t."
"It is."
The two of them glared at each other.
Neither was willing to back down.
Finally, Fu Teng let out a tired sigh.
"Fine."
"Then tell me why you’re here."
The moment he said that, Zhao Yue narrowed her eyes.
Dangerously.
"Oh?"
Her voice became frighteningly calm.
"So now I need permission before I come back?"
Fu Teng immediately regretted opening his mouth.
At this point, he was seriously considering pretending to be deaf.
Unfortunately for him, Zhao Yue wasn’t finished.
Not even close.
She marched toward him.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Each step carried enough momentum to make Fu Teng instinctively retreat.
By the time she stopped, they were standing only a short distance apart.
Fu Teng unconsciously took half a step backward.
The movement only made Zhao Yue even more determined.
Before he could react, she reached out and grabbed the front of his collar.
Fu Teng froze.
His eyes widened.
"Zhao Yue!"
"Be quiet."
Her grip tightened.
To Fu Teng’s utter shock, he actually became quiet.
The room suddenly fell silent.
For several seconds, neither of them spoke.
Zhao Yue stared directly into his eyes.
There wasn’t the slightest trace of shyness on her face.
Fu Teng had never seen this side of her before.
The Zhao Yue he knew was like a Nobel lady, just without he title.
But this version of Zhao Yue?
This fearless, aggressive, stubborn version?
He had never seen her before.
And honestly...
It was terrifying.
"Listen to me very carefully."
Fu Teng swallowed.
For some reason, his heart suddenly became nervous.
"I am not some object."
Her voice was firm and unwavering.
"I am not something you can throw aside whenever you’re annoyed."
"You don’t get to decide when I’m here and when I’m not."
Fu Teng blinked.
His mind was struggling to catch up.
Zhao Yue didn’t give him the chance to interrupt.
"You’ve been acting terribly ever since our engagement."
"You talk to me like I’m a problem."
"You treat me like I’m some burden that suddenly appeared in your life."
Her eyes narrowed.
"Like you’re doing me a favor by tolerating me."
Fu Teng immediately opened his mouth.
"I never—"
"Quiet."
His mouth immediately closed again.
To his own embarrassment, he obeyed automatically.
Zhao Yue nodded in satisfaction.
Then she jabbed a finger directly against his chest.
"You may be unhappy."
Poke.
"You may be annoyed."
Poke.
"You may even wish I never showed up."
Poke.
"But that doesn’t matter."
Fu Teng stared at her.
For the first time in his life, he was completely speechless.
Zhao Yue grabbed his collar again and pulled him slightly closer.
"I’m glue."
Fu Teng blinked.
"What?"
"I’m glue."
Her expression remained completely serious.
"As long as glue sticks to something..."
A triumphant smile slowly spread across her face.
"It doesn’t come off easily."
Fu Teng simply stared.
He genuinely did not know how to respond to that.
Zhao Yue lifted her chin proudly.
"So whether you like it or not..."
She pointed at herself.
"I’m staying."
Then she pointed at him.
"And one day..."
A mischievous glint appeared in her eyes.
"You’re going to marry me."
The room instantly fell silent.
Fu Teng stared at her.
Zhao Yue stared right back.
Neither moved.
Neither blinked.
Several heartbeats passed.
Fu Teng’s mind was completely blank.
For the first time since meeting her, he realized something very important.
Zhao Yue was not gentle.
She was not weak.
And she was definitely not easy to bully.
If anything...
She was far more stubborn than he was.
Finally, he managed to find his voice.
"...Who gave you this confidence?"
Zhao Yue smiled.
A bright, dazzling, and extremely dangerous smile.
Then she pointed at herself.
"Me."
Fu Teng felt another headache coming.
....
The night had grown deep by the time Fu Sheng finally returned.
When he pushed open the door to his room, he immediately noticed that Su Long was still awake.
Several candles remained lit.
The bed curtains had already been drawn back, and she had changed into her sleeping clothes, yet she was sitting quietly beside the table instead of resting.
Fu Sheng paused.
A slight frown appeared on his face.
"You haven’t slept yet?"
Su Long looked up.
For a moment, she simply watched him.
Then she smiled faintly.
"I was waiting for you."
Fu Sheng closed the door behind him and walked inside.
The moment he noticed her expression, however, his movements slowed.
Something was wrong.
He had spent enough time with Su Long to recognize it.
She looked calm.
As though she had been debating something inside her mind for a very long time.
Fu Sheng removed his outer robe before walking toward her.
"What happened?"
Su Long lowered her eyes briefly.
"Nothing happened."
The answer immediately made him suspicious.
Because whenever someone said nothing had happened, something had usually happened.
Fu Sheng pulled out a chair and sat opposite her.
His expression became serious.
"What is it?"
Su Long hesitated.
The room fell quiet.
The candlelight flickered softly between them.
Finally, she took a slow breath.
"There is something I’ve been wanting to tell you."
Fu Sheng’s expression instantly sharpened.
His first thought was Bao Li.
His second thought was danger.
His third thought was whether someone had threatened her.
Without another word, he reached across the table and took her hand.
His voice remained calm.
"Tell me."
Su Long looked at their joined hands.
Then she looked up at him.
For some reason, she suddenly seemed uncertain.
"I’ve been keeping it from you for a while."
Fu Sheng’s brows furrowed.
That only made him more serious.
"Is it dangerous?"
"No."
"Does it involve our family?"
"...Yes."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"Then tell me."
Su Long let out a small sigh.
For several moments, she seemed to be searching for the right words.
Then she spoke quietly.
"Love is a strange thing."
Fu Sheng blinked.
That was not the direction he had expected.
He remained silent.
Su Long continued.
"Sometimes it feels like butterflies in your stomach."
"Sometimes it makes people lose sleep."
"Sometimes it makes people smile for no reason."
Her gaze drifted toward the candlelight.
"And sometimes..."
"It arrives so naturally that people don’t even realize it until it’s already too late."
Fu Sheng listened quietly.
Although he still had absolutely no idea where this conversation was going.
Su Long looked back at him.
"No matter how much people deny it..."
"No matter how much they avoid it..."
"Some feelings simply refuse to disappear."
Fu Sheng nodded slowly.
"I agree."
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
"Is this your way of confessing to me again?"
Su Long immediately rolled her eyes.
The tension in the room eased slightly.
"Stop talking."
Fu Sheng leaned back.
"Then continue."
Su Long stared at him for a moment.
Then her expression became serious again.
The smile vanished from her face.
"Fu Sheng."
"Hm?"
"I need you to stay calm."
That sentence immediately destroyed whatever amusement he had been feeling.
His expression became cautious once more.
"What are you trying to tell me?"
Su Long took a deep breath.
Then another.
Even now, she seemed reluctant to say it aloud.
Fu Sheng waited patiently.
Finally—
"Fu Sheng..."
She paused.
Then forced herself to continue.
"I don’t think Fu Teng is like most men."
Silence.
Fu Sheng stared at her.
Several moments passed.
Then he frowned.
"What do you mean?"
Su Long looked at him carefully.
"As in..."
She struggled to phrase it.
"As in I don’t think he looks at women the same way other men do."
Confusion appeared on Fu Sheng’s face.
The more she explained, the less he seemed to understand.
"What are you talking about?"
Su Long sighed.
"I didn’t want to tell you before."
"I thought maybe I was mistaken."
"I thought perhaps it would change with time."
Her expression became complicated.
"But now..."
"I don’t think I’m mistaken anymore."
Fu Sheng sat completely still.
His instincts were screaming that whatever came next would be troublesome.
"Su Long."
His voice became cautious.
"What exactly are you saying?"
Su Long looked directly into his eyes.
Then she finally said it.
"Fu Sheng..."
"I think Fu Teng is attracted to men."
